Enjoying Travel While Staying Accountable
This is the season to travel, but unfortunately, this may also cause you to get away from your health routine. It can be hard to fit in physical activity when you travel, but it is possible.
As you explore a new place or visit people, go for walks, hikes, or swims outside at the beach or pool. Look for ways to enjoy physical activity in your new locale. You don’t have to discard your health goals just because you are not home.
The Slide Downhill
It’s very easy to let health habits slide when the routine changes. Especially on a vacation, there is a tendency to desire relaxation and rest, which often means lounging. There is nothing wrong with some lounging, however, like all things, it should be in moderation.
Faced with getting up and moving, many vacationers feel unable to make the effort because–well, it’s effort, and isn’t the whole point of vacation and travel to get away from effort and bring on relaxation? And there it is, the beginning mindset of a summer slide in which you let go in a free fall that takes you away from your health goals.
It’s easy to allow excuses to slide in, like that devil on your shoulder urging you to lounge in your hotel bed instead of walking on the beach in the cool early morning before the heat of the day. Watch out!
So, Let’s Travel Together
Don’t worry because Core57 is the voice of the angel on your other shoulder. I am here in many forms to help you be accountable and make the most of summer travel. Together, we can stave off the summer slide and keep the devil on your shoulder at bay.
When you make getting active while away on vacation into a choice, then you are accountable for the decision because you accept and own the consequences. However, if you treat it like a chore you must do and one that takes you away from relaxing, then you might feel reluctant, avoid the goal, and end up sliding. It doesn’t have to be a dreaded chore, and in fact, it can be fun.
Partners In Accountability
Staying healthy while traveling is about building in accountability, and there are so many ways to do this. One of the best ways is an accountability partner who will motivate you and inspire action. From thinking up incentives to being a sounding-board, adding in an accountability partner makes it less lonely and more fun to meet your goals.
Speaking of fun… This summer, I made my annual appearance as Flat Kolleen, a 2-D version of me that helps clients stay accountable while they travel. The idea was to take pictures of ‘flat me’ at events or times that included physical activity to share their success making good health choices. I have been going everywhere!
You work hard to keep your core strong, and now it’s time to draw on that Core strength. We can work with you to include health goals in your travel plans to avoid excuses and stay accountable. You’ll see that you can still have relaxing get-a-ways while building in physical activity.
