CORE57 is Driving Success on the Fairways and in the Gym

Cross-training is an important part of any active lifestyle. The largest benefit to cross training is overuse injury prevention, especially when it comes to hobbies and physical activities we love doing. For avid golfers and CORE57 members Leslie and Heidi, cross training not only reduced injury risk and helped with active recovery, but also helped them improve their distance and stamina during golf rounds.

Leslie Ballard is an avid golfer and current member here at CORE57. When we asked her what her secrets to seeing improvement in her game were, she filled us in: "participating in CORE57’s semi-private strength training classes.”

The result? "I have significantly increased my distance with my woods and with my irons", she said. Not only did this training allow Leslie to feel stronger physically, she also claims that it improved her mobility. "I go to CORE57 because I want to be healthier and I want to be active well into my 90s", she shares. "And the extra distance on the golf course is a wonderful bonus!"

Heidi, another CORE57 member and golfer, shares that when she joined our community, she was "struggling with her back going out all the time, fatigue, fibromyalgia, felt out of shape, and her golf game had suffered". That was very tough for Heidi mentally because if you know her, you know she is a HARD DRIVEN GO-GETTER!

Her goal? "Improve my strength in a way that would help me add 10 yards to my drive", she said. Starting out, Heidi also struggled with back pain and a weak core, both of which can impact the form and speed of your golf swing. With hard work and a combination of different exercises, we have added those 10 yards, PLUS more! She recently shared, "on occasion I overshoot the green, due to increased power generated from my core".

"In addition to massive gains on the golf course, Heidi has SHINED in the gym," said CORE57 trainer, Rebecca. "She has progressed from not being able to bend her knees without pain, to doing many different variations of lunges. Her shoulders have gained much more stability, which is important for her because she has excess laxity in her joints, making her more prone to injury. She can now deadlift 95+ pounds, where in the beginning we couldn't deadlift at all due to pain."

The icing on the cake is the friends Heidi has made in the gym, because as we all know, community and connection are so very important for our life balance and overall health and longevity!
