The semi private sessions are where the brilliance of the gym comes to light. While the classes are fun and get you a great workout with fun camaraderie, the semi private sessions are where the individual coaching comes to bear. All of the trainers are great and are highly collaborative. They keep track of your goals, progress, any injuries you have, and are prepared and ready to go for each semi session. It is a fantastic deal considering the going rate for 1:1 professional personal training. The team approach means a ton of flexibility for heroic schedules as well!

I started doing one semi private per week a long time ago, and initially it was to learn because I was new to the gym and like to do things the “right way.” Semi’s give you the opportunity to ask questions about form and understand what you are doing and why. I started seeing increasing benefits from these sessions, beyond what I saw from the large group classes, and so I have increased to 2x per week. The added benefits I am seeing are being much more confident with increasingly heavy weights due to the extra supervision and challenge from the trainers. I continue to do 2 semi’s per week because it is so personalized. I have had to make modifications due to occasional knee pain, and have been able to workout all through healing. It is such a relief to know that I can continue to come to the gym and keep progressing, no matter what may be going on with my body!

Semi private sessions have given me the ability to better utilize large group classes because of teaching me proper technique and helping me feel more confident knowing what weights to choose on my own. Because I struggle with some ongoing discomfort due to past SI issues, and off and on elbow tendonitis, the trainers take extra care in telling me where to focus, where to go easier on the weights, and how to work around these issues so I don’t exacerbate my old injuries. It is nice to have a second pair of eyes, because my natural tendency is to push myself too hard, and then I end up injured. I have increased confidence in large group classes due to my semi private sessions, and I take what I learn and apply it in so many other areas of life!

My overall goal is just to be healthy and find an exercise regimen I enjoy. Semi private sessions allow me to be consistent and patient with my personal goals, focus on movement patterns, and honour my physical scars from previous orthopedic surgeries (total shoulder replacement, multiple knee and ankle surgeries). As a former elite athlete who still has that inner drive to be physical, I greatly appreciate the ability to do that while also staying safe given my injury status. One additional value is being able to take my workouts from the gym to the road, since I travel quite a bit for work. I do a lot of the exercises I have learned in my semi’s in hotel gyms across the country.

After years of not working out, I could not get up off the floor without rolling onto my stomach and pushing myself up with all four appendages! I heard about Core 57 from a woman in the waiting room at the dentist, who raved about how working out and doing nutrition coaching had changed her life, but I was still skeptical because I have had surgeries on my knees and feet. I decided to try it and I'm so glad I did! I have benefitted the most from semi's and nutrition coaching. When I show up for my semi, the trainer has read my file, and knows what my issues are, and is prepared with appropriate exercises for my strengths and limitations. My spot in the gym and equipment are waiting for me and the trainer keeps a very close eye on my form. I am feeling so much leaner and stronger now. I highly recommend Core 57 because it is the first gym that makes working out enjoyable and do-able for me!
