Fueling Your Fitness Journey: The Vital Role of Nutrition

Your body is an amazing machine – fuel it right  and it will take you to great places! At CORE57, we are firm believers that proper nutrition is key to achieving your fitness goals, and we are here to guide you through each step of your journey.

We're passionate about empowering our clients to reach their fitness goals. One of the ways we do this is by emphasizing one of our 7 Foundations to Fitness: fuel. After all, without proper fuel, we simply can’t expect the best from our body!

Why Does Food Matter?

Food is more than just calories — it's information that tells our bodies how to function. It can impact everything from our energy levels and workout performance, to our sleep quality and mental health. When you feed your body the proper nutrients, you’re not only fueling your workouts — you’re also supporting your body’s recovery processes and overall health.

One of our pillars of nutrition is the law of 3’s — when you’re thinking about what to include in your next meal, your most important categories are proteins, fibrous carbs, and healthy fats. Balanced meals will help level your blood sugar and hormones and set you up for success throughout the day.

The Individuality of Nutrition

Every person's nutrition journey is different. Hormone imbalances, Thyroid conditions, as well as other pre-existing conditions, can affect how your body stores and uses energy. That's why it's essential to have a nutrition plan that takes into account YOUR INDIVIDUAL body and goals.

At CORE57, we believe in crafting individualized, sustainable nutrition plans that empower you to fuel your body to achieve your goals best. Our personalized nutrition coaching addresses your unique needs to create the best plan for you.

As one of our clients puts it, nutrition is “not a quick fix diet” – it’s about having the tools you need to sustain wellness for life.

The Impact of Diet on Energy Levels

What you eat plays a crucial role in your energy levels. Your food choices can either boost your energy or leave you feeling sluggish and fatigued. Eating a balanced diet full of fresh, whole, unprocessed foods can help renew your energy levels. These foods are rich in vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients your body needs to function optimally.

If you aren't eating a balanced diet, you may be missing out on essential vitamins and minerals. Vitamin deficiencies, particularly B vitamins like B12, can lead to fatigue or anemia, resulting in low energy levels..

Nutrition and Sleep

Your diet can even significantly impact your sleep quality. Certain foods can promote better sleep, while others may interfere with your sleep cycle. For example, foods rich in the amino acid tryptophan (found in turkey, cheese, chicken, fish, and nuts) can help produce serotonin and melatonin, key hormones that regulate sleep. On the flip side, consuming too many high-calorie foods close to bedtime may result in greater sleep latency, meaning it could take you longer to fall asleep, and/or your sleep quality can suffer due to digestion, rather than recovering and rebuilding cells which is supposed to be what is happening during sleep.

Food and Mental Health

There's a strong connection between diet and mental health. Nutrient-dense foods can support brain function and mood, while a poor diet can contribute to stress, anxiety, and depression. Eating a balanced diet with an emphasis on natural foods can be the key to improved mental well-being.
